NY VTL 1180(e): failure to reduce speed for special hazards
There are a lot of ways to cited for speeding in New York. Some of them are very specific, and others are a bit vague. Section 1180(e) of the vehicle and traffic law is a catch-all that covers “special hazards,” including curves, hills, narrow and winding roads, railroad crossings, and pretty much any circumstances that suggest a driver should be especially cautious.
In other words, it’s deliberately broad to allow for a lot of discretion by police officers. If a driver pleads guilty, the penalty includes three points on the license. However, three speeding tickets inside of 18 months will get your license revoked automatically.
